Gratitude for my Mum

I would like to thank you for all the thoughts, prayers, and cards that have come our way over this past week. My mother, Ellinor Townend (94) passed away Friday, June 26. She was well known in United Church circles for her many years of work in stewardship: locally, provincially, and nationally. She was very generous with her time and resources, offering
her leadership and organizational skills wherever needed.

You may not have known Ellinor, but she certainly kept up with all the Sunnybrook news. She received the Weekly Perk and was able to view our services from time to time online. She loved enquiring about my talking point each week, so when I was visiting with her last Monday, I asked her what question she would ask. It was Mum’s question that led our conversation at On Tap Tuesday evening.

Perhaps it’s a good question for all of us to consider. “What message do you send by what you do and the choices you make?” Her question reminded me of the hymn we used to sing many years ago, “They’ll know we are Christians by our love” (Peter Scholtes, 1966).

Ellinor was filled with gratitude for her life, her family, and all the experiences that enriched life over the years. We will miss her dearly, but we are very thankful for her long life and all the relationships she tended along the way.
Peace and joy
