A Journey Just Begun

There are just three more sleeps until Rally Sunday! I always get excited at this time of year. The beginning of the program
year feels like the beginning of an adventure. Most of it is planned, and we feel prepared for what lies ahead, but of course there will always be some unknown elements that will make the journey interesting.

Whenever Allan and I go on a journey we always take a backpack. The best trips are usually the ones with a little wiggle room in the daily details. That means each day has room for an adventure or two that may not be on the itinerary. Enter the backpack. As each day begins, we fill it with the items we think we will need. The weather, the type of transportation, who we will meet, how long we will be gone, are all considered for the day’s adventure.

Rally Sunday marks the beginning of another year of adventures for us as a faith community. Most of it is planned, but I’m sure there will be a few unknown elements to make it all very interesting. I wonder what we will need in our backpack, what side trips we’ll go on, and who we will meet along the way.

We are grateful for the wonderful energy in the building right now, and the engagement by so many in the life and work of Sunnybrook. As this new program year begins, I hope you will consider how your piece of the puzzle fits in the big picture of who we are as a faith community. What are your interests? What gifts do you have to share? Let us know if you would like more information about any of our ministries: worship, congregational care, outreach, children and family
programming, study groups and other faith formation options.

As we found out this summer, all our stories add to the colourful tapestry that represents our Sunnybrook identity. It’s just not the same without you! I’m excited as we begin this new adventure together. My backpack is almost ready, but of course I
will leave some room for the unknown. See you at the celebration on Sunday.
Peace and joy,
Nancy
