Summer of Dreams
Next week we transition into our summer theme, Visions and Dreams, and I am delighted to be passing the baton over to Glynis Wilson Boultbee to lead worship for the first three weeks of July. With this being a General Council year we decided to pick up on the theme that will guide our national church in August.
Our Moderator, The Right Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne selected the theme, Visions and Dreams, and the logo design includes a dove, mountains, waves, and a rainbow. Together, these images tell the story of prophecy, visions, and dreams inspired by the Holy Spirit. This will be a timely and appropriate theme this year as we celebrate our 100th anniversary as a denomination and begin dreaming of what the future will look like for our church.
The visioning and dreaming process has already begun at Sunnybrook. Our Sunnybrook staff, and co-chairs of Faith In Action held a short retreat at the beginning of June at my shared family cottage. This sunrise (4:30 a.m. – I think I was the only one to witness this) was an invitation for us to take a big picture view and begin imagining our next program year – what we want to keep, tweak, or delete. This week I shared the work we did with Council so when we meet again in late
August, we can extend the process and bring our ideas into clearer focus.
I hope you enjoy this summer theme and that it will give you an opportunity to do some dreaming of your own. Our Sunday worship times will weave visions and dreams together with stories and wisdom literature, prayer, songs and reflections. Don’t forget to check out the books that Faye and Lyn have selected to accompany your dreaming. Also, you may even find other Sunnybrook folks at Troubled Monk on Tuesdays at 5:00 throughout the summer.
It has been said (I think that was me!) that if we are to create a different world, we must first imagine what that looks like for us and for our community.
So, happy summer dreaming.
Peace and joy,
Nancy
