Courage to Seek
Life-Giving Water

We all know that we need water
to survive, but did you know that on average, our bodies are about 60% water? Its no wonder we need frequent reminders to drink more water so that all parts ofour body can function properly.

When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well, the conversation about water quickly shifted from water needed for our physical bodies, to water needed for our spiritual health and wellbeing. The life-giving water that Jesus offered is the knowledge and reassurance that God is with us always, that we are loved and held in grace. When we have the courage to seek that kind of life-giving water, we can heal the broken places of our lives.

Many years ago I wrote a song for a Womens Retreat that was based on the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. Each verse reflected on a different aspect of life-giving water. Revisiting that piece now I am particularly drawn to the last verse:

The water from this well is here to nurture,
to comfort and to strengthen mind and soul.

With healing powers it helps us to discover,

what hidden strengths we have to ease the toll.

I wonder what life-giving water you are seeking during this season of Lent. What courage is needed to let go of whatever is holding you back, and to break trail in another direction.

May we always remember the deep well of life-giving water within each us water to nurture, to comfort, to strengthen, to heal, and to give us courage.

Peace and joy,

Nancy
