Hitting the
Books

This month of May has been
particularly busy, but at the same time, it has been rich with learning and connecting with broader church. You may have noticed that I am a great cheerleader for the United Church of Canada. Each congregation has its unique strengths and challenges, and together across the country, we are this amazing, multi-coloured face of God with the ability to adapt to the changing world around us.

Our Chinook Winds Regional AGM last week was a good reminder of who we are as the broader church. I was able to meet regional and national staff and gain a better understanding of how we are stepping into this new regional structure. I am so grateful for so many wonderful leaders who are supporting our work in congregations.

I am looking forward to worshipping with you this week as we step back into the wisdom of the scriptures to make sense of all we are experiencing. There are some great messages this week about praise, new beginnings, and the commandment to love one another back to the basics!

My next adventure begins next week! I am very grateful that Sunnybrook supports my continuing education and so for this year I have registered for a weeklong conference called the Festival of Homiletics (the art of sermon writing). This year the theme is After the Storm: Preaching and Trauma. It will be held in Denver, Colorado, but I will be attending online. I look forward to being inspired by a variety of speakers and attendees across Canada and the United States.

I hope you have been encouraged by the signs of spring bursting out all around us this week. The grass is greening up and the leaves on the trees are finally opening up. Yeah! I find such hope seeing that new life faithfully shows up each year. See, I am making all things new (Revelation 21:5).

Peace and joy,
Nancy
