Good Companions

We have journeyed through this season of Lent in each other’s good company. We have considered the gifts of the elements
of the earth, wrestled with the challenges before us, and contemplated our faithful responses to a climate in crisis.

As we approach Palm Sunday we remember the challenges and the consequences Jesus faced, determined to see his journey through, exposing unjust systems, and offering an alternative way of being. Surely this story calls us to summon our courage, to not give up, and to put our faith in action for a better world.

One way to find our courage is to find companions to share the journey. I am so grateful to everyone who joined us on the trails during this Lenten season. I’m grateful for the company, the conversations, and the shared joys and challenges. I have come to realize that we not only walk with each other, we walk for each other. We hold each other’s story and know we are not alone. We find the holy in each other’s presence. We find our courage to act with, and for, the people we know, and also the diversity of life we encounter along the way. We are all in this together and all things are connected.

Maybe as we lift up our palm fronds this Sunday, we will consider it a commitment to each other and to the natural world around us. Maybe we can find our courage together to continue honouring our convictions. Let’s remember that the word “courage” comes from the Latin word for “heart.” Courage is found in our love and compassion for one another. May we live well into the commitments articulated in our creed, to live with respect in creation, and to love and serve others.

Peace and joy,
Nancy
