Living Radical Gratitude

In the fall, our hearts were on fire as we gathered to begin our fall start up worship and programs.  Now we move into a new season, let us live radical gratitude for the ministry and mission we do here at Sunnybrook United Church and beyond.  As we greet one another, let us give thanks and blessing for their ministry of all of us.  Let us find ways to include each other in the various ministries we do here and welcome one another with gratitude and blessing.  As old Zechariah said when he was able to speak at the birth of his son John, "Blessed be in the name of God."  Blessed be (name of person).  You are God's Holy One.  A blessed church wants to be alive to Christne and we the b the viranches that reach out and feed the world with blessings.  A blessed church is to recognize God within each of us.  As we begin our new year, let us continue living our blessings, living with radical gratitude.  Radical Gratitude moments can be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Radical Gratitude Moments;

  • A child said of the recent Sunday Club program "We had lots of fun . . . I wonder if the adults get a chance to do this every once in awhile?"  He was feeling guilty that the adults might not be having as much fun as he was.
  • After the the extreme effort to ready ourselves for Christmas what a gift to be at church on December 27th. It was a small congregation who gathered that morning. My happiness was quite evident as I had at my side my daughter, who was visiting from BC. The service was so joy filled and the music so fitting. With your invitation to all of us to share some of our Christmas memories of the past, many told stories of days gone by. It is when we hear these"living tales" that we know one another more intimately and so can love one another more deeply. Thank you.
  • Brian Prince is doing very well.  Some of his medications are starting to be lowered, which is good because 17 bottles of pills at 7 different times of the day is a little overwhelming.  He is starting to get his personality back a little bit each week but is still pretty zoned out most of the time.  We want everyone to know that the gifts, gift cards, prayer shawl, money, muffins, prayers and most importantly child care is all very appreciated.  We have had a few teary moments of appreciation.  Have a good day and God Bless all of you.  - - - Brian and Tammy Prince.
  • We are fortunate to have a large, clean, immaculately maintained church for worship and community service. The Property Committee is to be commended for continually maintaining our building.  I know how much work it is to constantly clean, fix, upgrade and maintain our church building.  I do that at home for my small little house, and it is time consuming.  But I do it because it is important to  my family and I.  Thus, I am very appreciative of the people who are constantly fixing and maintaining our place of worship.  I sometimes take for granted the work that went in to the entire church property for my enjoyment of Sunday Morning Worship.  Property Committee – you are appreciated.
  • My radical gratitude goes out to all of the organizers and entertainers involved with the Coffeehouse on Feb. 12th.  It was such a great evening and so much fun! Who knew we had so many talented folks at Sunnybrook!
  • Hi Linda, I would like to thank you and all my Sunnybrook Church friends who sent cards, emailed, phoned, delivered food, baskets and visited while I was awaiting a plan and during my hospital stay last November and resting at home from bilateral mastectomy surgery from Breast Cancer. I'm happy to report that I had good news in Dec. and no treatments were needed. I have been doing physio and am coming along well from the numbness under my arms. It meant alot to know I had alot of friends praying for me and our family through this difficult time. Sincerely, Vivian Williamson

Haiti Earthquake Appeal

For United Church donations to qualify for matching funds, certain conditions must be met:

•donations must be received by Financial Services Unit of the General Council Office no later than February 12, 2010 •donations must be received from individuals only, not businesses or companies In order to ensure that all money collected is seen as coming from individual donors, we suggest that congregations

•encourage donors to give directly to

The United Church of Canada

3250 Bloor St. West, Suite 300

Toronto, Ontario M8X 2Y4, marked “Haiti Appeal”

or give directly online, choosing “Emergency Response” and specifying “Haiti Appeal”

•alternatively, collect all personal cheques received and forward the cheques to the United Church address above Receipts will be issued from the General Council Office for each donor. As described in United Church Launches Emergency Appeal for Haiti, the news release of January 14, 2010, donations made by United Church members and congregations to the Haiti Appeal are considered “over and above” gifts to the United Church’s wider work, so they are not recorded as part of a congregation’s Mission and Service Fund giving, but are reported as part of the extra appeal amounts collected by the United Church.

Congregations that have already submitted a single cheque to the United Church Haiti Appeal will be contacted and invited to submit a list of names, addresses, and the amount received from each donor. We expect that having this detailed documentation on file and available to CIDA will be sufficient for eligibility.

From the Mission and Service of the United Church of Canada. As of this morning $1,000,000 has come in for our Haitian earthquake appeal.  Thank you.
