How do I find out more about Sunnybrook? How can I get involved?
There are lots of ways! You can call us or drop by to talk. Or you could join us for worship on Sunday to find out what that's like. The "Activities & Programs" section of the web site will tell you about lots of opportunities for getting involved in social groups, education and service opportunities, and more. You'll find contact information there so you can ask about particular programs and activities.
Do I have to be a member?
No! All are welcome at Sunnybrook United Church. Please join us for our services (including communion) and/or our activities and programs.
What if I want to become a member?
If you are a member of another church, we can talk to you about how you might transfer your membership. If you would like to attend adult confirmation classes in order to become a member, please contact the church office at 403-347-6073.
How many members do you have?
As of December 2007, we had almost 400 members (although many who attend are not members). On any given Sunday, we have an average attendance of about 300.
What's the Sunday service like?
We work to create a dynamic worship experience that includes everyone. Children and youth stay with us for the first 15 minutes before going to Sunday School. (And sometimes we have intergenerational services that everyone attends.) We do have an order of service, but every week looks a little different. A minister leads most services, but lay members of the congregation (including youth and children) sometimes take leadership roles for soime or all of the service. Music is very important to us and we have a vibrant choir. If you want a traditional, quiet worship experience, you may be disappointed on occasion. Some services are more contemplative, but some are unexpected and even downright rowdy!
Why belong to the United Church of Canada?
The United Church of Canada "views the religious practice of all people of goodwill with respect and gratitude. We believe the Spirit of God is at work in many different faith communities." That said, we’ve also thought and talked and written a lot about what we believe. You can find an overview of some of our key beliefs at www.united-church.ca/beliefs/overview
PLEASE NOTE:
This page of our web site is being developed. What other questions do you have? Please send them to the church by email. If they are of general interest, we will answer them on this page as soon as possible. If they are more specific, we'll get back to you individually. Thank you!
